Job Description

Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Position Summary We are seeking a full-time Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to join our laboratory team. This position primarily works daytime hours Monday through Thursday, with occasional half-days on Fridays. The primary work location is Maple Grove, with flexibility to provide coverage at our Edina location approximately 4-5 times per month. The Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing and evaluating clinical laboratory tests, ensuring accurate and reliable results, and providing technical support to team members as needed. This role supports all laboratory operations and reports directly to the Laboratory Supervisor. Key Responsibilities Perform specimen collection, processing, and laboratory testing according to established laboratory procedures and protocols. Verify patient and specimen identification and ensure proper specimen handling. Conduct diagnostic and proficiency testing while recognizing and communicating critical or abnormal results. Accurately document test results and related information in the laboratory information system (LIS) and patient records. Perform and monitor quality control procedures in accordance with standard operating guidelines. Conduct calibration, maintenance, and performance verification of laboratory equipment. Troubleshoot instrumentation, reagents, and specimen-related issues as they arise. Assist with onboarding and training new laboratory team members. Support inventory management and supply maintenance. Maintain competency across all assigned laboratory workstations and testing areas. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Associate degree in Science or Arts; and/or Completion of a NAACLS-accredited Medical Laboratory Technician training program; or An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Preferred Qualifications Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and demonstrate self-motivation. Commitment to providing respectful, patient-centered care within a diverse environment. Ability to read, understand, and follow written procedures and instructions. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Basic computer proficiency. Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. Attention to detail and commitment to quality standards. Certifications One of the following is required: Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification through
ASCP, CLT
(NCA), or an equivalent nationally recognized certification; or Eligibility to obtain MLT certification.
Certification Requirement:
Candidates hired under certification-eligible status must sit for the first available certification examination following hire and successfully obtain certification within six months of employment.
