Job Title:
Specimen Processor Job Description The Specimen Processor accurately receives, verifies, and processes biological specimens in a laboratory environment to support high-volume testing operations. This role focuses on precise data entry, careful handling of samples, and adherence to standardized procedures to ensure timely and reliable laboratory results. Responsibilities Receive and check in incoming specimens and verify all demographic information for accuracy and completeness. Match donor identifiers on original specimen containers against the corresponding chain of custody forms to ensure proper sample tracking. Accession specimens into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) with accurate and timely data entry. Perform aliquots of specimens according to the specific tests ordered, following established protocols. Escalate non-routine or problematic specimen issues to the team lead for guidance and resolution. Perform post-accession aliquots as required to support downstream testing processes. Store, retrieve, and dispose of samples in accordance with laboratory procedures and regulatory requirements. Maintain a clean, well-stocked, and organized laboratory area to support efficient workflow. Follow all Standard Operating Procedures, including safety and quality standards, to ensure compliance and maintain high-quality results. Handle specimens used in drug testing and related laboratory analyses with strict attention to documentation and chain of custody. Essential Skills High School Diploma or equivalent. At least 6 months of prior work experience. Ability to accurately enter data into a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Proficiency in typing and 10-key data entry for efficient and accurate processing of specimen information. Basic understanding of laboratory practices and procedures related to specimen handling. Ability to follow detailed Standard Operating Procedures and safety guidelines. Strong attention to detail when verifying demographics, donor identifiers, and chain of custody documentation. Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume environment handling biological specimens. Additional Skills & Qualifications Biology or science-related degree is preferred. Experience working in a laboratory environment, particularly with drug testing, is beneficial. Familiarity with general biology concepts and laboratory terminology. Comfort working with computers and laboratory information systems. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple samples and tasks simultaneously. Work Environment This role operates in a laboratory environment focused on logging and processing incoming biological samples, including those used for drug testing. The position supports a high-volume operation associated with a large customer, with workload expected to remain strong for an extended period. The work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Team members work at laboratory benches and computer stations, using a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and standard lab equipment for specimen handling, aliquoting, and storage. The environment emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and adherence to safety and quality standards while working with biological specimens. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
