Medical Laboratory Technician 904 South 10th Street, Saint Joseph, MO 64503 From $23.25 an hour - Part-time From $23.25 an hour - Part-time Job Summary We are seeking a Certified Laboratory Technician to support clinic-based laboratory operations. Although MLT (ASCP) or MLT (AMT) certification is required, this position is designed primarily around the duties of a Medical Laboratory Assistant/Clinic Laboratory Assistant role. This position focuses on specimen collection, specimen processing, waived testing support, quality documentation, reference laboratory coordination, and daily laboratory operations. This is a strong fit for an MLT who wants predictable and flexible clinical hours, a patient facing environment, and a meaningful community health work without the pace or bench-testing volume of a hospital laboratory. Responsibilities Perform venipuncture, capillary collection, urine collection, and other routine specimen collection procedures Verify patient identity and ensure accurate specimen labeling Assess specimen acceptability, including volume, tube type, labeling, timing, temperature, and handling requirements Process specimens, including centrifugation, aliquoting, storage, packaging, and preparation for courier or reference laboratory transport Accession specimens and enter the required information into the EHR or reference laboratory portal Perform or assist with waived testing and quality control documentation as assigned Support limited clinical testing workflows only as allowed by certification, training, competency, and regulatory requirements Maintain laboratory supplies, collection kits, reagents, PPE, and inventory Perform basic laboratory equipment maintenance and documentation Maintain logs for temperatures, QC, maintenance, specimen tracking, equipment maintenance, and regulatory compliance Communicate specimen issues, workflow concerns, and follow-up needs to the appropriate clinical staff Coordinate with reference laboratories, couriers, providers, and clinic staff to ensure timely and accurate testing workflows Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and patient-centered laboratory workspace Required Qualifications Current MLT(ASCP) or MLT(AMT) certification Associates degree or higher Experience with phlebotomy, specimen handling, or clinical laboratory workflows Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety Ability to follow CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA, infection-control, and laboratory safety standards Ability to complete competency assessments and maintain required documentation Professional communication with patients, providers, nursing staff, reference laboratories, and clinic team members Preferred Qualification Prior outpatient clinic, FQHC, community health, hospital laboratory, or reference laboratory experience Experience with specimen accessioning, centrifugation, aliquoting, packaging, and send-out testing Familiarity with EHR (Aetna, Epic) workflows Bilingual ability is a plus, but not required Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a certified MLT who is dependable, calm, organized, kind with patients, and comfortable owning the day-to-day laboratory workflow in a community clinic setting. This person understands laboratory quality and safety, but also enjoys practical, hands-on clinic support work.
