The Sleep Tech is responsible for preparing patients, conducting sleep studies, monitoring physiological data, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining accurate documentation in accordance with established protocols and regulatory standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prepare patients for overnight and daytime sleep studies by explaining procedures and addressing questions. Apply and calibrate monitoring equipment according to established protocols. Conduct and monitor polysomnographic studies, including EEG, EKG, EMG, respiratory monitoring, pulse oximetry, and related testing. Observe and document patient behaviors, sleep stages, respiratory events, and physiological responses. Recognize and respond appropriately to patient emergencies and equipment malfunctions. Score and analyze sleep studies according to established guidelines and physician requirements. Maintain accurate and complete patient documentation within the electronic health record. Ensure patient comfort, privacy, and safety throughout testing procedures. Perform equipment maintenance, calibration, and quality assurance activities. Educate patients regarding sleep disorders, testing procedures, and treatment modalities as appropriate. Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support quality patient care. Maintain compliance with accreditation standards, infection prevention practices, and departmental policies. Participate in continuing education and competency development activities. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education High School Diploma or GED required. Completion of an accredited Polysomnographic Technology program preferred. Licensure & Certifications Certified Polysomnographic Technician (CPSGT) required. Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) credential preferred. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Experience Previous sleep laboratory experience preferred. Experience performing and scoring polysomnographic studies preferred. New graduates from accredited sleep technology programs are encouraged to apply. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of sleep disorders and sleep study procedures. Ability to recognize and respond to patient emergencies. Strong attention to detail and observational skills. Ability to work independently during overnight shifts. Excellent communication and patient education skills. Proficiency with sleep diagnostic equipment and electronic medical records. Strong organizational and documentation abilities.
