The High School Researcher conducts research for the Wiggins Research Group, working alongside undergraduate and graduate students while supporting laboratory organization and operations. This position contributes to data reports, maintains data spreadsheets, collates experimental data for analysis. The role also coordinates data activities, facilitates material inventories, performs data analysis and provides written and oral dissemination of research results to direct supervisors. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Prepares, organizes, and analyzes research and data for group research projects. Maintains databases and collates data into appropriate figures, tables, graphs, and charts for program-level communications.
Performs research tasks and data activities, including validation testing; reports results; meets obligations and deadlines; and ensures scientific activities for the research effort are organized and completed. Cleans glassware and the laboratory environment; maintains facilities; participates in laboratory safety and training exercises; and conducts various assigned activities that support research.
Maintains internal communication with key researchers to ensure all project deliverables are met ahead of schedule and facilitates communication to support project completion.
Adheres to University and department policies, procedures, and regulations.
Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
High school student with aptitude in science and engineering, or chemistry with aspirations for college education within Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret high school-level math and science documents
Ability to respond effectively to direction and feedback from research supervisors
Ability to communicate effectively within a team environment
Ability to comprehend and apply principles of high school-level mathematics, including modern algebra
Ability to work with and apply mathematical concepts
