Job Description

Primary Purpose:
Responsible for the recovery of human eye tissue for transplant and/or research and the collection of necessary medical, behavioral, laboratory, and other data to facilitate quality donor screening.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs efficient and quality surgical recovery of human eye tissue for transplant and/or research. Collects complete and accurate medical charts, behavioral data, laboratory data, blood specimens, and other pertinent data from the recovery site and other appropriate agencies. Travels throughout respective recovery area to collect eye tissue and medical records. Acts professionally and respectfully as a representative of Lions World Vision Institute in hospital, funeral home, and transplant/donation settings. Performs scheduled donor recoveries. Performs timely transportation of eye tissue to and from airport and surgeon's facilities as needed. Ensure all applicable FDA, EBAA, LWVI and state regulatory policies are followed. Performs other projects and duties as assigned.
Schedule:
24hour shifts, 6 days per week.
Job Type:
Per diem.
Compensation:
Technicians earn between $25 to $40 per hour. This range is dependent on availability and number of cases worked. Each donor case starts at $120.00, while cases not recovered are $75.00. In addition to case pay, an hourly rate of $13.00 is given to further compensate for each hour worked and additional duties such as, travel/ lab time and administrative tasks. Shift Reservation Bonus equaling $2 an hour for each scheduled shift, in which the tech is not called in for work. Mileage is reimbursed. Medical benefits offered to techs who average working 30 or more hours a week. An employee may voluntarily designate a percentage of their salary towards employer-sponsored 401k. LWVI will match the employee's contribution up to 6% of the employee's salary. Employer-paid Employee Assistance Program.
Qualifications:

Required Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with all Eye Bank, hospital, and peer agency staff. Ability to work days, nights, weekends and long hours when needed. Able to interpret and follow verbal and written direction. A personal commitment to organ and tissue donation required. Understanding and adherence to LWVI's safety, regulatory and confidentiality guidelines. Qualified applicants must be 21 years of age or older, have a valid driver's license, and be eligible to meet our company driving standards. Lifting; Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally. Occasionally, the employee must lift and move up to 80 lbs. Education and/or
Equivalent Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent. Medical and/or Biological science background strongly preferred. Work Environment The work is performed primarily in a hospital/morgue environment.
