Specimen Processor Job Description We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Specimen Processor to join our dynamic laboratory team. This role involves the preparation and introduction of biological specimens for laboratory analysis, ensuring precision and accuracy in processing. Responsibilities Introduce and prepare biological specimens for laboratory processing. Open specimens and pour off into secondary containers for analysis and testing. Verify patient demographic information against test requisition forms. Enter patient information into the computer system for tracking purposes. Meet production metrics and quality measures for timely and accurate results. Unpack and route specimens to appropriate staging areas. Pack and ship specimens to designated testing facilities when required. Prepare and store excess specimen samples properly. Resolve and document any issues with problem specimens. Handle and dispose of medical and chemical waste according to safety protocols. Comply with environmental health and safety policies and procedures. Operate automated instrumentation under supervision, if necessary. Essential Skills Proficiency in laboratory processes and specimen processing. Experience in accessioning and specimen collection. Knowledge in biology and data entry. Ability to manage patient information and sample preparation. Additional Skills & Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent required. Previous medical or production experience preferred. Proficient computer and typing skills. Ability to pass a standardized color vision test. Comfortable handling human biological specimens, including blood, urine, and tissue samples. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs, work in protective equipment, and sit/stand for long periods. Strong eye-hand coordination for accurate specimen identification. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. High attention to detail with problem-solving skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. 0-2 years of work experience. Work Environment This position is based in a fast-paced laboratory environment, responsible for receiving and processing up to 100,000 samples per week. The role requires wearing protective equipment and may involve extended periods of sitting or standing. It offers a great opportunity to gain experience and potentially transition to other departments within the organization. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Durham, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
