Job Description
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Laboratory Assistant will coordinate and perform tasks and activities in several areas of the clinical laboratory including but not limited to performing phlebotomy, specimen processing, and waived laboratory testing.PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
- Maintains competency and proficiency with respect to all job related laboratory policies and procedures.
- Completes assigned tasks accurately and timely, adhering to all laboratory standards, policies and procedures.
- Accurately performs computer entry of patient demographic and testing information including specimen data collected by laboratory or other hospital staff.
- Responsible for specimen receiving and handling for in house and reference laboratory testing, which includes the use of centrifuges.
- Under the supervision of technical staff, performs waived laboratory testing (i.e. kit testing).
- Assists with pre-analytical processes to include preparation for various testing.
- Reviews Outpatient Requisitions for accurate / appropriate laboratory orders.
