We take pride in our employees and our work and are looking to expand our team by adding a Microbiology Laboratory Assistant to our lab in Omaha.

• Plate biological specimen to appropriate media according to prescribed laboratory procedures to obtain most accurate results.
• Ensures specimens are labeled properly and the correct specimen has been submitted for the requested laboratory test by comparing specimen label to accompanying requisition.
• Ensures proper handling of specimens and disposal of contaminated material according to laboratory safety procedures.
• Receive supplies for Micro department and document information into Quality Control book.
• Maintain requisite quality control procedures by documenting quality control results according to established standards.
• Communicate results to necessary laboratory personnel and/or clients via verbal, written, or computer link communication in a prompt, professional and courteous manner.
• Maintain a clean and orderly work area according to safety standards.
• Maintain sufficient current inventory of reagents and supplies according to laboratory protocol.
• Contribute to the efficient operation of the Laboratory.
• Participates in department meetings and Laboratory committee activities to maintain continuity, consistency, and communication within and outside of the department.
• Maintain confidentiality of all laboratory information according to Laboratory policy.
• Answering phone calls.
• Receive, log in and distribute plated specimens from Lincoln lab.
• Dispose of trash when biohazard containers are full.
• Ordering and restocking department as needed.
• Perform additional tasks when asked by technologists.

DAILY TASKS

• Receive, log in, and distribute plated samples from Lincoln lab.
• Microscan panel entry and setup.
• Answering phone and forwarding any phone calls to technologists as needed.
• Disposal of biohazard trash.
• Check and restock bench supplies
• Ordering and receiving supplies and logging documentation into Quality Control book.
• Reconstitute coagulase plasma as needed
• Stain gram stain slides, Trichrome slides, acid fast slides as needed.

WEEKLY TASKS

• Ordering of Remel, Hardy and Fisher media and kits
• Set media QC from Remel order according to QC guidelines.
• Order room supplies and put away supplies
• Change Trichrome stain on Monday
• Make QC slides (gram stain, AFB, and Trichrome) as necessary
