Job Description

Atlantic Health is seeking a dynamic and motivated individual who is interested in joining the skilled and compassionate team in Morristown Medical Center's Emergency Department as a full-time Mobility Technician. This position is 5 days a week with 8 hour shifts. The Mobility Tech plays a vital role in enhancing patient recovery and safety by supporting mobility initiatives in the Emergency Department (ED). This position partners closely with both nursing to assist patients with ambulation, transfers and positioning while promoting and maintaining functional independence. Key responsibilities include assisting patients with walking, transfers, and repositioning using appropriate techniques and equipment, collaborating with nurses, documenting progress in the electronic medical record, educating patients and families on safe mobility practices, and encouraging patient participation in movement goals. The Essential Job Functions include:
ASSISTS PATIENT WITH ACTIVITIES OF DAILY LIVING.
Turns and positions patients per policy or as directed and transfers patient to and from bed/chair/stretcher. Assists patients with ambulation utilizing the appropriate assistive device and providing the appropriate amount of assistance. Adheres to hospital policies and procedures regarding care.
OBSERVES AND MAINTAINS ISOLATION PRECAUTIONS.
Be actively involved with assigned unit and rehab department to reduce hospital acquired infections by observing isolation precautions and practicing hand hygiene. Maintains standard precautions and follow isolation instructions. Washes hands before and after each patient intervention. Assures appropriate PPE supplies are utilized as needed.
DOCUMENTATION/REPORT.
Records patient contact timely and accurately. Documents ADLs and other pertinent information in a timely manner. Complete verbal and written reports by end of shift.
DETERMINES PRIORITIES OF CARE.
Demonstrates flexibility in responding to patient need. Completes all assignments unless redirected by rehab coordinator/manager. Works as a team member in meeting assigned unit and rehab department needs and goals. Demonstrate ability to prioritize care based on patient needs.
PROVIDES AND MAINTAINS SAFETY AND COMFORT MEASURE FOR PATIENT.
Checks with patient's care team both before and after mobilizing the patient. Upon leaving patients room, ensures appropriate bed rail position, bed locked, call bell/TV control and telephone within reach of patient. Adheres to precautions when caring for patients receiving chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy. Asks patient anything else I can do for you. Participates in rehab department meetings and report.
CUSTOMER SERVICE/PATIENT SATISFACTION.
Observes for and responds to emotional needs of patient and/or family/significant others. Reports observations to the patients care team for follow up. Communicates with other staff members via Vocera when unable to assist patients. Give patients an expected time frame for tasks and communicate with patient to ensure all needs are met.
PERFORMS NON-PATIENT, UNIT/DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES.
Maintains neat and clean environment. Cleans all assistive devices after use. Performs other duties and errands as requested by rehab department. Maintains a professional appearance at all times.
MAINTAINS A SAFE ENVIRONMENT.
Adheres to OSHA, Joint Commission, Board of Health, and hospital standards and requirements. Participates in yearly validations of skills. Maintains clean and safe environment for patients and staff in accordance with hospital policies and other regulatory agencies. Checks for two patient identifiers prior to any intervention. Ensures patient call bell and phone are within reach. Removes all non-functioning equipment from floor. Bed alarms are activated on appropriate patients. Remains with fall risk patients when toileting. Participates in hand hygiene initiative
TRAINING/STAFFING/UNIT SPECIFIC.
Participates in the orientation of new employees by assisting in role responsibilities, unit routine of patient care, documentation and equipment utilization. Assist new employees during their shifts. Provide coverage for the department for patient care as needed.
PATIENT COMMUNICATION.
Recognizes the physiologic symptoms of dizziness, SOB and fatigue and reports them to nursing staff on a timely basis. Completes all documentation of activities as assigned. Communicates with the patients care team regarding changes in the patient's condition as well as any other patient care concerns or suggestions.
