The mission of the Center for Molecular & Behavioral Neuroscience (CMBN) of School of Arts & Sciences, Newark (SASN) is to advance understanding of the brain's structure and function through excellence in neuroscience research and training. Our researchers pursue this goal through an integrative approach that cuts across the boundaries of traditional disciplines. They combine molecular, electrophysiological, neurochemical, anatomical, imaging, behavioral, and neuropsychological methods to analyze how the brain works, develops, interacts with the environment, and is modified by experience in health and disease. CMBN is also committed to serving the academic and surrounding Newark communities through educational outreach, community service, and research internship programs that train undergraduate and high school students. Posting Summary Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking a Laboratory/Technical Assistant. Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the Laboratory/Technical Assistant (Research Assistant) will assist in supporting the day-to-day operations of the Gluck Lab in the Center for Molecular and Behavioral Neuroscience, facilitating research studies and data analysis. This position is responsible for and not limited to the following: Supporting research studies for the Rutgers African American Brain Health Initiative (AABHI). Conducting health screenings and assessing the eligibility of study candidates for the AABHI and other studies. Administering neuropsychological and physical tests to study participants, performing initial data interpretation, and archiving data. Administering fMRI scans and assisting other laboratory personnel with analysis. Running a Polysomnography (PSG) device to conduct nap/sleep studies and working with laboratory personnel on analysis. Working with laboratory personnel, helping to develop and implement new cognitive tasks. Coordinating community and University-based educational events for survivors of sexual violence. This position is contingent on the continuation of external funding. FLSA Nonexempt Salary Details $16.00 - $30.00 per hour Offer Information The final salary offer may be determined by several factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate's qualifications, experience, and expertise, and availability of department or grant funds to support the position. Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requires a Bachelor's degree in a scientific/technical discipline or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant laboratory or research study experience. Other technical skills may be substituted for the degree. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as organizational and administrative skills, are required, along with attention to detail. Must have the ability to interface with the public, manage difficult situations, and communicate effectively with research participants. Adherence to relevant policies and regulations for working with human subjects is required. Must complete all necessary training, including fMRI training. Preferred Qualifications Graduate degree is a plus Experience in writing research protocols, grants, and scientific publications is a plus Experience with the administration and interpretation of neuropsychological assessments is preferred Equipment Utilized Regularly uses Microsoft Office, fMRI, blood pressure equipment, saliva sampling equipment, PSG device, and knows or will learn all the equipment, software, and specialized materials needed to support the effective and efficient performance of the position.
