Job Description

Job purpose The Lab Assistants role is responsible for data entry and initial handling of any urine samples received by the lab. This includes having a general understanding for the entry of patient demographics, health care insurance, proper test codes and the Lab Information System software platform. Duties and responsibilities The primary job duties and responsibilities are as follows: Arrive by 9 AM daily in advance of samples being delivered Responsible for receiving, processing, and accessioning all urine samples for testing Daily accessioning process: o Grouping and labeling of incoming sample bags by doctor/client o Sort grouped bags by requested panel (pain, psych, confirmation, special panels, etc.) o Set up new patient or use existing patient profiles and input/edit patient demographics and health care insurance information o Pour off samples into vials, print and attach appropriate labels o Print out held sample requisitions (QNS, missing information) and assist in contacting clients to recover incomplete or missing information o Upon completing the day's accessioning, audit all requisitions to verify proper information is present - correct as needed.

LIS:
UPS, email, or fax Prepare confirmation send outs by sequestering samples, ensuring confirmation orders are created in the LIS, recording specimen send outs, and coordinating outgoing FedEx shipments to the reference laboratory File hardcopy/electronic copies of requisitions as directed by Supervisor. Occasional various administrative tasks upon direction, including coordinating FedEx pick-ups, coordinating fulfillment of supply orders, and ensuring telehealth patients receive specimen collection materials in accordance with the established schedule. Qualifications These are the minimum qualifications that are necessary for someone to be considered for the position.
Qualifications include:
Prior experience with lab based sample accessioning preferred Prior experience with Lab Information Systems Proven track record for follow-through and responsibility Able to work well and collaborate in a fast paced, team environment Self-starter with exceptional communication skills
Education:
High School graduate, or associates or higher level degree Familiarity with MS Office Suite of products preferred
