Thompson Road, Syracuse, NY Duties :
Instruct high school juniors and seniors in a Career & Technical Education laboratory setting. The CTE Laboratory Technician program covers 21st Century commercial laboratory and biological concepts, skills, and knowledge expected of Lab Tech professionals. These include operational knowledge of complex instrumentation and laboratory equipment, collecting samples/data, and conducting a variety of research studies where results are analyzed and conclusions drawn. Skills covered include phlebotomy/blood draw, infection control processes and procedures, and use of microscopes. Dynamic instruction in problem solving, critical thinking, communication, team work, and soft skills are also expected.
Qualifications :
New York State teacher certification in Medical Laboratory Assisting required; or meets the requirements to qualify for and then earn a "Transitional A" teacher certificate through the New York State Education Department. Successful candidate is required to possess professionally licensed experience in a clinical laboratory setting. Strong communication skills and ability to productively liaison with supervisory personnel from area medical and industry labs are also required. Applicant must demonstrate a continued commitment to the success of high school students enrolled in a Career & Technology Education Lab Tech program.
