Department Summary The Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Laboratory & Student Experience Coordinator uses scientific and engineering knowledge to perform a variety of research and operations activities. The Coordinator designs, constructs, upgrades and maintains experimental systems and experiences used in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (ChBE) labs and classes. This position develops new lab experiences for existing courses to implement best practices, and provides both formal and informal instruction to individual students, lab teams and engineering research teams. Responsibilities could include creating course material, grading student work, and managing undergraduate and graduate lab assistants. The Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Laboratory & Student Experience Coordinator also serves as the safety officer responsible for lab safety compliance for the department.
Representative Duties:
Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to the following: Contributes to research-specific laboratory experiments, partners with investigators and research staff on testing procedures, performs quantitative and/or qualitative analysis as required. Establishes, implements, and monitors laboratory policies and procedures. Assists with developing, monitoring, and reconciling operational lab budgets. Provides instruction to students, faculty, and staff on safe laboratory procedures. Maintains, designs, and constructs laboratory equipment for engineering instructional laboratories, including pilot-scale process equipment and analytical equipment. Independence of Action Works independently; seeks guidance for unusual situations. Communication and Collaboration Collaborates with team members and external departments. May represent the team in meetings with internal and external stakeholders. Physical Requirements This role is primarily desk-based and involves extensive use of desktop computers. Occasionally, the job may require travel to attend meetings and programs. Minimum Qualifications Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field and 5 or more years of related professional experience, or equivalent education and experience.
