Job Description

A Brief Overview Develops and maintains a working knowledge of policies, procedures, processes and services relevant to Pathology. What You Will Do Maintains competency to answer most frequently asked questions from internal and external customers. Handles customer inquiries referring only the more complex matters such as those needing management approval and/or questions of policy interpretation to other staff. Receiving, following up, ordering and sending of pathology consult requests, including registration, accessioning, and transcription of results to the laboratory LIS. Performs general support duties including, but not limited to, travel arrangements, meeting coordination, expense submission, correspondence transcription, departmental office supply inventory and ordering. Coordinates departmental tumor boards, legal cases, storage of patient material, autopsy documentation. Provides back up support for additional departmental needs. Additional Responsibilities Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies and standards. For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation. Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace. Education High School Equivalent / GED (Required) and Associate's Degree in a science related field (Preferred) Work Experience 1+ years physician support experience in health care/medical educational setting (Preferred) Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Microsoft Office skills in Word and Excel, customer service skills, knowledge of medical terminology, knowledge of pathology terminology, knowledge of pathology lab testing. (Required proficiency) Computer skills, preferably with knowledge of laboratory information systems (Required proficiency) Able to multi-task, prioritize and manage own time efficiently. (Required proficiency) Organization, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
