Full Job Description Summary:
The Metallurgy Technician supports the production, processing, and testing of metals and alloys. This role involves preparing and analyzing samples, operating laboratory equipment, conducting chemical and mechanical tests, and assisting in research and development. The technician ensures accuracy, safety, and quality in all laboratory operations.
Responsibilities:
Ensure compliance with all laboratory safety procedures and quality control standards. Follow established safety guidelines when handling samples and operating equipment. Prepare metal and alloy samples for testing, including microscopic examination, chemical analysis, and mechanical evaluation. Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment such as spectrometers, hardness testers, and microscopes. Conduct physical, chemical, and mechanical tests to assess material composition, structure, and properties. Approve materials that meet established criteria and report deviations or exceptions promptly. Record, analyze, and interpret test results, preparing reports with charts, graphs, and summaries. Identify and address quality issues, providing recommendations for corrective actions. Collaborate with engineers, production staff, and fellow technicians to resolve material-related issues and share findings. Assist in research and development projects involving new materials, processes, or testing methods.
Qualifications:
Previous experience in metallurgy, materials science, or a related field is preferred. Knowledge of MS Office applications (Word, Excel) is required. Experience working in a laboratory or controlled environment is preferred. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and cultures. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting, presentations, and team discussions.
Pay:
$18.00 - $20.00 per hour
