Lab Technician Job Description The Lab Technician supports a wide range of research activities by performing routine and semi-routine laboratory tasks in accordance with established policies and procedures. This role contributes directly to research projects by executing standard and non-standard laboratory procedures, accurately documenting results, and clearly communicating findings for inclusion in reports. The position offers exposure to government-related research projects, providing strong potential for long-term growth and opportunities to move into different areas of research over time. Responsibilities Apply established laboratory techniques, job skills, and applicable policies and procedures to complete a variety of experimental and support tasks. Perform routine and semi-routine research procedures, recognizing and reporting deviations from accepted practices or expected results. Conduct standard and non-standard laboratory tasks under the close supervision and guidance of more experienced staff. Accurately record, organize, and clearly communicate experimental procedures, observations, and results for use in reports and project documentation. Verify the accuracy, applicability, and reasonableness of project work, ensuring data integrity and adherence to protocols. Maintain regular communication with the supervisor regarding the status of work, issues encountered, and progress toward project goals. Follow all laboratory safety procedures, quality standards, and documentation requirements. Assist in maintaining laboratory organization, cleanliness, and readiness for ongoing and upcoming experiments. Support and, when appropriate, help train and guide less experienced staff in routine laboratory procedures and practices. Provide input on process improvements and make recommendations within the scope of established guidelines, while exercising limited discretion in independent decision-making. Essential Skills Demonstrated laboratory experience, including familiarity with standard lab procedures and techniques. Ability to follow established protocols accurately and consistently while recognizing deviations from accepted practice. Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy, quality, and reliability. Clear written and verbal communication skills to document and explain routine research procedures and results. Ability to work effectively under close supervision and guidance from more experienced staff. Capability to manage semi-routine assignments and prioritize tasks to meet project deadlines. Bachelor's degree in a science-related field, or an associate degree in a related field with 1 year of relevant experience. Eligibility to work on sensitive government-related research projects, including meeting applicable citizenship requirements. Additional Skills & Qualifications Interest in government-related research and a desire to contribute to impactful scientific projects. Motivation to grow professionally and explore different areas of research over the long term. Willingness to assist in training and guiding less experienced team members when needed. Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with supervisors and colleagues in a team-oriented lab environment. Adaptability to handle both standard and non-standard tasks as project needs evolve. Work Environment This role is based in a laboratory setting that supports government-related research, where some projects may involve a heightened level of confidentiality. The position is structured as a weekend role within a full-time, 40-hour-per-week schedule. Work will most likely follow a first-shift pattern, with a typical Monday-Friday schedule that includes rotating weekend coverage. The lab environment is process-driven and safety-focused, with established protocols and close supervision from experienced staff. Team members collaborate regularly, keep supervisors informed of progress, and operate in a setting that emphasizes precision, documentation, and continuous learning, with strong opportunities for long-term growth into different research areas. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of West Jefferson, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
