Job Description

Lab Technician Intern Worthington Steel 1127 Dearborn Drive (Show on map) Jun 24, 2026 This position is an in person part-time student laboratory technician position performing material testing on flat rolled steel products in support of production certifications, product development, investigative efforts, and reverse engineering of products. This position has led to full-time employment opportunities for multiple students upon completion of their degrees. We have opportunities for year-round technicians in the Columbus area to work 15-20 hours during the school year and up to 35-40 hours possible during the summer and winter breaks. Flexible scheduling around classes during the school year.
Responsibilities
Perform metallurgical tests specified by the Technical Service Managers and production Quality Control.
Mechanical property testing
Metallographic testing
Spectrometric chemical analyses
Responsible for data integrity and shipment certifications.
Complete investigative projects assigned by the metallurgical engineering staff pertaining to flat rolled steel products and processes (i.e. DOE, data collection, testing, analyses, reporting). Preferred Experience Current student actively pursuing a B.S. in Engineering (Materials Science and Engineering preferred).
Expected graduation of Spring 2027 or later is ideal.
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Above-average analytical ability and demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
Exceptional attention to detail.
Personable, collaborative, and able to work effectively in a team environment.
