This position fulfills the requirements of TJC, CMS, and CLIA 88 for the Clinical Laboratory position in a state hospital clinical laboratory. The laboratory technical mission is to aid in fulfilling prompt, accurate and precise measurements of biological samples, a vital component of comprehensive health care for all LSH patients in a technical and caring manner. The position exists to treat patients on a daily basis for any prescribed laboratory testing. The position requires clinical laboratory work to be performed on Larned State Hospital patients. Included in this population are adults and geriatric patients. Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following: Phlebotomy Checks Fax, printer and lab files for orders Draws laboratory specimens Labels appropriately Processes and maintains specimens appropriately Specimen Testing Prepares specimens for testing and/or sending to reference laboratories Follows laboratory test procedures for performing all laboratory testing to include quality control and calibration Trouble shoots problem specimens Performs start up and shut down procedures for laboratory equipment Verifies results, reviews delta checks and reports results accurately Maintains appropriate logs/files Calls and/or faxes reports as per physician's request or as policy for stat and critical values Computer Use Maintains proficient in the use of the LIS and HIS systems Proficient in software applications for spreadsheets, word processing Office Duties Files, orders and maintains appropriate paper work for lab results Acts as a receptionist, answers and directs phone calls as needed Maintenance Performs maintenance procedures for laboratory equipment Temperatures Records temperatures as determined in policy Takes corrective action if needed Inventory Maintains inventory of supplies and reagents for laboratory operations; request supplies as needed Proficiency Testing Performs, records, evaluates and troubleshoots proficiency testing samples and results on a rotating basis with other lab personnel Takes appropriate corrective action for any results not within limits of the evaluation data QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent.Preferred Qualifications:
MLT(ASCP) certification or one year experience in a clinical laboratory setting.Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements:
