Research Technician (Manni Lab) Med-Pharmacology and Chemical Biology - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (26003305) Research Technician III position is available immediately in the Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology, University of Pittsburgh, to provide research support in a lung immunology focused laboratory. This is a staff position equivalent to a lab technician. The candidate will oversee daily lab operations, maintain mouse colonies, perform routine lab procedures, and train junior fellows and students. The salary will be commensurate with skills and experience.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and maintain mouse colonies, generate genetically modified mouse models, and conduct animal experiments.
  • Perform independent laboratory experiments, including developing experimental procedures and preparing reagents and specimens.
  • Design and execution of extractions from different samples, including blood, airway epithelium, and other tissues.
  • Maintain tissue cultures and perform a variety of cell-based assays.
  • Manage lab inventory and supply ordering. Maintain equipment. Maintain detailed, accurate, and up-to-date records and logbooks and maintain an accurate sample inventory log.
  • Analyze experimental data, prepare lab reports, contribute to publications, and assist in the preparation of grant proposals.
Supervise and mentor junior laboratory members, supporting the development of their technical expertise and professional growth.
Qualifications:
  • Candidates must have experience working with animals, demonstrate proficiency in mouse colony management, and hands-on experience with surgical procedures and genetically engineered mouse models is preferred.
  • Candidates with experience in flow cytometry are also preferred.
  • Candidates must hold a B.
S., M.S., or higher degree in a biology-related field and demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of immunology, cell and molecular biology, and metabolism.
Location:
This is a full-time, in-person position. The role requires regular attendance and participation in on-site meetings. Job Summary Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.
Essential Functions Computer work:
walking from place to place; standing and sitting to perform essential tasks. Good manual dexterity. Physical Effort Lifting and stacking of boxes of supplies, standing for extended periods required to fulfill workload. Light - Maximum lifting of up to 20 lbs. With frequent lifting/carrying of up to 10 lbs. or a negligible amount; significant walking or standing may be required or may involve sitting with a degree of pushing and pulling.
