Job Title:
Lab Technician Job Description The Lab Technician will perform testing using Near Infra-red methods, acidity tests, sink work, microbial testing, and environmental sampling. They will prepare solutions and media required for laboratory testing, sterilize equipment as needed, and perform butterfat and total solids tests on various dairy products. The technician will maintain lab records of samples, test results, and lab quality control measures, ensuring that finished products meet government and customer specifications. The role also involves evaluating truck shipments for acceptance based on established criteria and completing data entry into computer systems while generating requested reports. Responsibilities Perform testing using Near Infra-red methods, acidity tests, and microbial testing. Prepare solutions and media required for laboratory testing. Sterilize laboratory equipment as necessary. Conduct butterfat and total solids tests on dairy products. Maintain accurate lab records and ensure the integrity of all testing results. Certify that finished products meet government and customer specifications. Ensure cleanliness and organization of the laboratory. Evaluate truck shipments for acceptance based on established criteria. Complete data entry into computer systems and generate reports. Essential Skills Proficiency in lab testing, food science, and microbiology. Attention to detail and accuracy. Knowledge of quality control practices. Additional Skills & Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required. Degree in Biology, Food Science, or related field preferred. At least one year of experience in food manufacturing as a technician or in quality. Work Environment The position is based in the lab and involves pulling samples. A strong work ethic and commitment are essential, with a minimum of 40 hours per week expected and at least 10 hours of overtime available. Upon permanent employment, employees receive 3 weeks of vacation immediately, along with health benefits and a 401k. Annual performance reviews, potential pay increases, and holiday bonuses are also offered. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Reading, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
