A Brief Overview The Senior Laboratory Technician is responsible for oversight of a clinical section of the laboratory, maintaining compliance with all regulatory Performs all duties of a senior tech and serves as a key operator and subject matter expert. Responsible for new method project plans, technical communications, and cost-effective inventory control. Coordinates clinical section specific projects. Works directly with location supervisors/Managers for process, structure, and resolution. Resolve technical problems and ensure quality of patient tests result reporting. This is a non-management role that will report to a manager that may serve as overall Charge at times and may take part in the interview process. What you will do Maintain department inventory, billing, and invoices with minimal interruption of service. Responsible for appropriate selection of test methodology, verification of test procedures performed and establishment of laboratory test performance characteristics, including precision and accuracy of each test and test system. Provide operational assessments to enhance quality and optimize functions for area of responsibility. Supports updated EMR, software, and upgrades as the subject matter expert for their area. Organize, maintain, and review all work to include review of Quality Control (QC) records, proficiency testing programs, policies, method correlations, competency records, and instrument maintenance records. Ensures final review by Medical Director and/or Technical Consultant is complete as required. Enrollment, ordering, and participation in approved proficiency testing system commensurate with services offered. Evaluates and documents competency & performance of individuals responsible for testing at least semiannually during the first year and annually thereafter. Write, review, and update policies and procedures specific to clinical area. Adheres to policies and procedures. Assists, communicates, and educates other departments/locations with changes and updates. Identify training needs. Trains and instructs students, new team members, laboratory support staff, and hospital personnel. Assure that everyone performing tests receives regular training and education appropriate for the type and complexity of the laboratory services performed. Initiates performance improvement plans to maintain quality. Attends mandatory/continuing education. Identify and addresses performance issues. Identifies real and potential situations or detects equipment or process problems/malfunctions. Troubleshoots and documents appropriately. Coordinate training and competency of testing personnel by designated CLIA personnel initially, at six months, at one year, and annually thereafter. Coordinates review of Quality Control by designated CLIA personnel. Education Qualifications Associate's Degree in clinical laboratory science, medical technology or chemical, physical, or biological science Required Experience Qualifications At least two (2) years of laboratory training or experience Required Skills and Abilities Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel Licenses and Certifications Medical Laboratory Technician
  • American Society for Clinical Pathology Required or Medical Laboratory Technician
  • American Medical Technologist Required or Medical Laboratory Technician
