Job Description

Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Molecular Laboratory Technician to join our growing clinical laboratory team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing high-complexity molecular diagnostic testing using real-time PCR, including panels for Urinary Tract Infections (UTI), Respiratory Pathogen Panel (RPP), and other infectious disease assays. The technician will ensure accurate, timely, and compliant testing in accordance with CLIA, CAP, and manufacturer standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform specimen preparation, nucleic acid extraction, and real-time PCR testing on clinical specimens. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as thermocyclers, extraction instruments, and PCR workstations. Oversee the daily operational activities of the Molecular laboratory, both the technical and non-technical operations Interpret and validate PCR results according to laboratory SOPs and quality guidelines. Accurately document and report test results in the Laboratory Information System (LIS). Adhere strictly to protocols to prevent contamination and maintain assay integrity. Monitor and document daily quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) activities. Troubleshoot assay or instrumentation issues with minimal supervision. Assist with assay validations, verifications, and implementation of new molecular tests. Maintain inventory of reagents and consumables, and ensure proper storage conditions. Comply with biosafety, HIPAA, and regulatory requirements at all times. Participate in ongoing training, proficiency testing, and continuing education.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Biology, Molecular Biology, or related field required. Minimum of 1 year of molecular diagnostic laboratory experience preferred (real-time PCR strongly preferred). Experience with UTI, RPP, or other infectious disease panels using/preparing multiplex PCR mixes a plus. Must be able to work by themselves with remote assistance as needed. Familiarity with CLIA regulations and high-complexity testing requirements. Proficiency with pipetting, laboratory math, and working in a sterile environment. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow strict protocols and procedures. Effective time management, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand or sit for extended periods during testing. Manual dexterity for handling small tubes and pipettes. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally.
Work Schedule:
Part-Time:
Monday-Friday, Late Afternoons/Evenings for 3 to 4 hours.
Compensation:
$24-$26/hour, commensurate with experience
