POSITION SUMMARY
The Medical Laboratory Technologist is responsible for instrument maintenance, executing quality control procedures, specimen processing, test performance, and reporting test results as directed by the Senior Laboratory Manager and according to test standard operating procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Following the laboratory s procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient results Maintaining records which demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested the same manner as patient specimens Adhering to the laboratory s quality control policies and documenting all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and instrument maintenance Following the laboratory s policies, including taking and documenting corrective actions, whenever test systems are not within the laboratory s established acceptable levels of performance Being able to identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or test result reporting and correcting the problem or notifying the appropriate supervisor Documenting all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory s established performance specifications Performing and documenting preventative maintenance on equipment Prepares calibrators, reagents, and other materials Performing high complexity testing Monitoring, operating, and troubleshooting instrumentation to ensure proper functionality Identifying and replenishing testing bench supplies as necessary Maintaining a safe work environment and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment Perform duties of Clinical Laboratory Assistant Generating and processing lab orders Sorts, labels, and record patient specimens Responsible for sample accessioning Scanning and filing of laboratory documents Provide pre-analytical and post-analytical laboratory support Assist with Customer Experience Management communications Remain knowledgeable in applicable laboratory policies, procedures, and protocols Adhere to regulatory guidelines and standards General support of daily operations Maintains appropriate inventory of supplies Maintains effective communication and working relationships with all laboratory personnel, other disciplines, and external customers Other duties, tasks, and responsibilities as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor s degree from an accredited university in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, chemistry, microbiology, or a closely related science field (required) 2 years of clinical laboratory testing experience with good understanding of the workflow (required) Medical Technologist certification or other ASCP equivalent (preferred) Must qualify as Testing Personnel in accordance with CLIA Regulations 493.1423
Standard:
Test Personnel Qualifications Working knowledge of basic laboratory procedures Experience handling biospecimens Experience working on Roche instrumentation (preferred)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks in a dynamic environment. Proficient with computers and familiarity with laboratory information systems. Strong interpersonal, management, critical thinking, and decision-making skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Calm and reasoned judgement. Strong sense of ethical and moral attitudes necessary for maintaining the confidentiality of patient information. Ability to work overtime hours, as required. Ability to read, understand, and follow SOPs, validation protocols, etc. and to complete documentation in a clear, accurate manner. Knowledge of the regulatory (CLIA/CAP) requirements of clinical laboratory testing. Methodical attention to detail. Knowledge of safety and infection control standards. Strong keyboard and data entry skills; ideally 65-70 words per minute Knowledge of safety and infection control standards Ability to work in a team environment Ability to work every Saturday Ability to adapt to a constantly growing and changing environment
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No direct supervisory responsibilities. Tuesday-Saturday 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM. 40 hours per week.
