POSITION SUMMARY
Obtains patient samples, performs requested analysis of patient specimens, reports results to the physician and is responsible for quality control, equipment maintenance, quality assurance and calibration of instruments. Performs correlation and/or validation studied on new instruments. Collects and collates data for Quality Assurance studies. Coordinates/leads work team.POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS
: Associate Degree in Applied Sciences in Medical Lab Technology (required) Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent specialty certification within one year of hiring date (required) No experience requiredJOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
: Proficient knowledge of clinical laboratory process, testing and analytical procedures and techniques, and various specialized laboratory equipment of the assigned laboratory unit. Good written and verbal communication skills required. Excellent customer service skills. Computer skills required with knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.Responsibilities:
POSITION RESPONSIBILITES
Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices. Evaluates and solves problems related to collection and processing of biological specimens for analysis Perform analytical tests of body fluids, blood, serum, plasma, cells, and other substances Integrate and relate data generated by various clinical laboratories while making decisions regarding possible discrepancies. Confirm abnormal results, verify and execute quality control procedures, and solve problems concerning the generation of laboratory data Recognizes factors that affect measurements of results and takes action according to predetermined protocols. Establish and perform preventive and corrective maintenance of equipment and instruments as well as identify appropriate sources for repairs. Demonstrate professional conduct through interpersonal skills with patients, laboratory personnel, other health care professionals, and the public. Assists in organizing the assigned workload Participate in continuing education for growth and maintenance of professional competence. Instructs new employees, section personnel, and students in new and established clinical laboratory responsibility Maintains inventory of reagents and other supplies Adheres to internal controls established for department Insures compliance with federal and state regulations Use principles of current information systems. The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents. C.Occupational Exposure:
This position has minimal to no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and is an OSHA Category III (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids). Person who performs these duties are not called upon as part of their employment to perform or assist in emergency medical care or first aid or to be potentially exposed in some other way.
