WORK HOURS
4am-2:30pm, 4 days a week, 10 hour shifts, every other weekend. "This position may require the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas

" Responsibilities Performs venipuncture and capillary puncture to collect blood specimens from patients. Receives and accessions specimens into the laboratory information system (LIS). Prepares and aliquots specimens for various laboratory tests according to established protocols. Monitors and maintains appropriate inventory levels of laboratory supplies. Provides information regarding specimen collection, test requisitions, and laboratory procedures. Addresses inquiries and concerns; escalates complex issues to the appropriate personnel. Ensures compliance with all applicable quality control and quality assurance measures. Assists in the preparation and setup of laboratory equipment and instruments. Ensures the proper handling and transportation of specimens within the laboratory. Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications Ability to answer incoming calls from clients, healthcare professionals, and patients. Knowledge on how to label, document, and prepare collected specimens for transport to the laboratory. Ability to verify the accuracy of patient information and specimen labeling. Knowledge of recording and maintaining accurate documentation of waived test results. Ability to collaborate with laboratory staff to maintain a clean and organized work environment. Knowledge of relevant laboratory safety and infection control protocols. Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) is an asset. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Required Skills 1 year of experience in phlebotomy and specimen processing within a clinical laboratory setting. SectionName Skills Skill High School degree or GED is required.
