The Molecular Laboratory Technologist will perform high-complexity molecular diagnostic testing across a range of infectious disease panels, including urinary tract, wound, sexually transmitted, and gastrointestinal infections. This role is essential for maintaining the integrity of molecular workflows, ensuring the accuracy of test data, and contributing to high-quality patient results in compliance with CLIA, COLA, and HIPAA standards. The technologist will also support routine lab operations, assist in assay development, and contribute to the ongoing growth of Alturos Labs' diagnostic capabilities.
General Description:
Alturos Labs, LLC is a CLIA-certified molecular diagnostics laboratory based in San Antonio, TX, specializing in advanced infectious disease testing. We're seeking motivated technologists who are passionate about science and diagnostics, and who are excited to grow with a startup committed to quality, innovation, and efficiency in healthcare.
Key Responsibilities:
? Evaluate incoming specimens and organize workflow for optimal turnaround. ? Perform high-complexity molecular testing, including multiplex real-time PCR and nucleic acid extraction. ? Operate automated instrumentation, including KingFisher Flex and Bio-Rad CFX. ? Conduct chemistry-based GI testing per validated protocols. ? Maintain and document daily quality control, instrument calibrations, and maintenance logs. ? Analyze and report results, ensuring clinical accuracy and timely reporting in the LIS. ? Participate in internal and external proficiency testing. ? Assist with validation of new assays and test development processes. ? Ensure compliance with SOPs, safety policies, and
CLIA/COLA
requirements. ? Maintain clean workspaces and follow biosafety protocols. ? Track inventory and communicate reagent or supply needs. ? Evaluate, label and accession incoming clinical specimens into the Laboratory Information System. ? Prepare specimens for molecular testing (ex. aliquoting, vortexing, plating). ? Assist technologists with plate setup and sample tracking. ? Maintain accurate and timely documentation of sample chain-of-custody. ? Effectively communicate findings, concerns, and opportunities for process improvements with lab leadership. ? Dispose of biological waste in accordance with OSHA and biosafety protocols. ? Organize and file QC logs, temperate logs, and maintenance records. ? Assisting with special projects and auditing workflow. ? Coordinate shipping and receiving of materials and specimens as needed. ? Assist in non-technical quality assurance tasks under supervision. ? Completing any other reasonable tasks deemed necessary to support the laboratory that will be delegated by lab ownership and executive supervisors. ? Effectively communicate findings, concerns, and opportunities for process improvements with lab leadership. ? Assist with oversight on day-to-day operations of the molecular lab. ? Assist with monitoring staff competency and training. ? Assist with reviews of QC and preventive maintenance. ? Assist with compliance with SOPs and safety protocols. ? Assist with investigating deviations, non-conformances, and incidents. ? Assist with oversight of pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic workflows. ? Assist with management of the laboratory team.
Working Conditions:
? Requires prolonged periods of standing, sitting, pipetting, and consistent use of PPE. ? Exposure to biological samples and hazardous reagents. ? Schedule flexibility required for possible evening/weekend shifts. ? Fast-paced environment with evolving processes and new technology adoption.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
? Strong understanding of molecular biology principles and PCR workflows. ? Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a regulated laboratory setting. ? Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and documentation skills. ? Effective verbal and written communication skills. ? Comfort with lab information systems (LIS) and data entry accuracy. ? Familiarity with quality control processes and
CLIA/COLA
standards. ? Familiarity with electronic multichannel pipettes and best pipetting practices. ? Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
