Job Type Full time The Department of Biology at the University of Virginia's College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, seeks applications for a full-time Lab Assistant to support the research of Dr. Katja Kasimatis. The Kasimatis Lab studies the evolutionary genomics of sexual conflict using the Caenorhabditis nematode model system (www.conflictgenomics.com). The Assistant will work directly with Dr. Kasimatis to support research in the lab located in the Physical Life Sciences Building. For more information, please visit: Department of Biology. The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties: Prepare media and reagents. Maintain nematodes strains. bacteria from natural nematode strains. Perform microinjections. Analyze transcriptomic data. Record accurate information and logs of experimental data. Supporting lab members with collection of data. In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned. Qualified candidates must have:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent
Experience:
At least 1 year of lab experience, which may include student experience.
Preferred experience:
Experience with spreadsheets, ordering, budget management. A bachelor's degree in Biology or a related field is preferred. Experience in animal husbandry. Experience generating genome annotations.
Physical Demands:
This position can spend extensive periods of time standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. Also requires keyboarding and other bench work and animal procedures requiring fine finger manipulation. This position is located in Charlottesville, VA. This position is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding and performance.
Anticipated Hiring Range:
$19-$21 per hour commensurate with education and experience. This is a non-exempt level, benefited position. For more information on the benefits at UVA, visit hr.virginia.edu/benefits.
