The Department of Cellular, Molecular and Genetic Medicine is dedicated to unraveling the fundamental biology that supports health and drives disease. Duties & Responsibilities:
This is a completely on-site position associated with supported research at Das Lab, in conjunction with Fisher Lab. The project encompasses many research activities, including breast cancer cell culture, drug screening and validation, followed by the elucidation of the mode of action by the application of molecular approaches. While not a prerequisite for this role, the individual will have the opportunity to acquire skills in animal care and tissue processing for diverse histological and pathological studies. The suitable candidate must possess the capability to comprehend and adhere to all standard operating procedures, methodologies, and protocols relevant to designated tasks. Although no administrative activities are given, it is understood that the employee will uphold compliant laboratory paperwork.
The primary responsibilities encompass:
A.) assisting the Principal Investigator (PI) or designated personnel, B.) routinely operating laboratory equipment, C.) assuring the availability of molecular and laboratory supplies, and D.) executing daily work assignments with accuracy and timely manner. Responsibility 1: Performing directed research activity under supervision of PI or designated personnel Maintaining cell culture; RNA and Protein Extraction, Conducting qPCR and Western blot Responsibility 2: Assisting other team members to conduct research activities Based on need and directed by Laboratory Manager Fill-up Liquid Nitrogen tank (biweekly manner or as recommended by PI/Lab Manager Responsibility 3: Logistic support and miniating laboratory supplies Organize the cell culture laboratory by ensuring all plasticware is in its designated area to facilitate the easy execution of experiments As determined by need or directed by the
Principal Investigator or Laboratory Manager:
Collect plastic and molecular reagents from the supply center and organize them in storage. Monitoring the usage of reagents and promptly reordering regular supplies
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's in science with wet bench (biology) research experience Prior experience in cell culture will also be essential Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience in molecular biology techniques are preferred
Salary Range:
$35,000-$45,000
