JOB DESCRIPTION
: This position supports the daily operation of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine divisions. The Laboratory Assistant I performs clerical, technical, or both duties as they pertain to the specific Laboratory division.
EDUCATION
: High school graduate or equivalent
EXPERIENCE
: + Basic computer proficiency preferred, including experience with data entry, tracking systems, or electronic medical records + Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally and effectively over the phone in a high-volume environment + Demonstrates clear, courteous, and accurate communication when coordinating with clinical staff and laboratory personnel Work Environment Considerations + This role involves regular handling of biological specimens, including human tissue and, at times, larger anatomical samples + Candidates should be comfortable working in a clinical laboratory environment that may include exposure to blood and other biological materials + A high level of professionalism, attention to safety protocols, and emotional composure in these settings is essential + Assists with the safe handling and movement of specimens, including placement into preservative solutions (e.g., formalin), under the direction of Pathologists' Assistants, Pathologists, or Pathology Residents
