JOB DESCRIPTION
This position supports the daily operation of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine divisions. The Laboratory Assistant I performs clerical, technical, or both duties as they pertain to the specific Laboratory division.
EDUCATION
High school graduate or equivalent
EXPERIENCE
Basic computer proficiency preferred, including experience with data entry, tracking systems, or electronic medical records Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally and effectively over the phone in a high-volume environment Demonstrates clear, courteous, and accurate communication when coordinating with clinical staff and laboratory personnel Work Environment Considerations This role involves regular handling of biological specimens, including human tissue and, at times, larger anatomical samples Candidates should be comfortable working in a clinical laboratory environment that may include exposure to blood and other biological materials A high level of professionalism, attention to safety protocols, and emotional composure in these settings is essential Assists with the safe handling and movement of specimens, including placement into preservative solutions (e.g., formalin), under the direction of Pathologists' Assistants, Pathologists, or Pathology Residents
