Job Description

Hospice of the
Ozarks:
To provide compassionate care during the end-of-life journey and for those who grieve.
SUMMARY:
This position is filled by a licensed practical nurse who, as a result of educational and clinical experience in medical-surgical nursing, possesses the knowledge and clinical skills necessary to provide nursing care; ensures quality focused and cost-effective care delivery outcomes; functions within a collaborative practice to enhance quality of care; and participates in continuous quality improvement activities. Adaptability is essential for the hospice LPN, as work schedule and daily work load change frequently to meet patient needs. Responsible and accountable for direct patient care within scope of practice for assigned patients in hospice under the direction of a registered nurse within the nursing team. Must be competent in a wide variety of nursing skills. Responsible and accountable for the care given to the patient and for the decision regarding which nursing tasks can be safely delegated to licensed and unlicensed persons involved in patient care. Responsible for adhering to all standards of nursing care and promoting a team effort among co-workers. Responsible and accountable to know, own and energize the vision, mission, values and standards of Hospice of the Ozarks.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Licensure:
Current Arkansas or Compact State PN license in good standing. Valid and clean Driver's License, reliable transportation and agency required liability insurance to complete home visits. Active personal automobile liability insurance coverage consisting of $100,000 per person and $300,000 per accident for bodily injury required.
Experience:
Minimum of one year acute care nursing experience preferred. Previous nursing experience in a medical-surgical environment preferred.

BLS required

Ability to read, write and communicate effectively. Basic computer knowledge required. Driving required. Sensitive Designation This position is deemed safety sensitive in accordance with Arkansas Act 593 governing Medical Marijuana.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job with or without an accommodation. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to perform the following: Must have the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, to solve problems and make decisions. Ability to stand and walk, bend, squat and twist up to or exceeding 8 to12 hours during shift(s). Occasionally requires lifting of 50 pounds or more of equipment and lifts patients with assist 125 pounds or more with proper body mechanics. Able to push in excess of 150 pound wheelchair with patient and equipment using proper body mechanics. Spends eight hours or more in front of computer, monitor or similar screen utilizing keyboard and/or mouse. Must be able to respond quickly in emergency situations of CPR and obtaining equipment. Must be able to handle critical and highly stressful situations with efficiency and composure. Has a keen sense of hearing and visual acuity to respond to critical changing patient situations from actual observations. May be subject to inside environmental conditions, hazards (including electrical currents and exposure to high heat and chemicals) and infectious diseases. May have to function around prisoners or mental patients.
Work Environment :
Hospice house, patient rooms, off campus travel, patient's home setting. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a position outside of the hospital setting, which is open 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. Holidays and work during inclement weather will be required. Work hours will occasionally exceed the normal work hours as scheduled and assignments may change during your shift. Potential for work on rotating shifts. On-call/Back-up Call responsibilities may be shared among all full time nursing staff.
