This position is responsible for providing nursing care to patients undergoing minor skin procedures and skin surgery. This includes pre-procedure patient evaluations and post-procedure patient and family teaching in a safe and quality-focused environment. Kindness, attention to detail and patience are highly valued.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform initial assessment and evaluation of the patient including vital signs.
- Provide pre-procedure and post-procedure teaching for both the patient and the family members
- Provide assistance during surgery or other procedures as indicated by the physician
- For skin surgery: prepare the patient for their procedure by prepping the area, draping with sterile drapes, setting up a clean tray with anesthesia, preparing instruments. Scrub in as an assistant to the surgeon when necessary.
- Administer medications to the patients including but not limited to local anesthesia, oral antibiotics, and oral anxiolytics, under physician supervision.
- Maintain appropriate records and documentation for all medications administered under physician direction
- Ability to utilize the EHR for daily tasks and for documentation as directed by the physician
- In some roles, collect blood, tissue or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing.
- Under physician direction authorize medication refills
- Under physician supervision, return patient calls and relay appropriate information to the supervising physician.
- Correctly disposes of infection waste and biohazard materials
- Schedule appointments for patients
- Change dressings on wounds.
- Inventory and order medical emergency supplies monthly and ensure all equipment is in proper working order.
- Must be willing to travel to the Farmington, Southington, Bloomfield and Cromwell locations.
