  • $45 / hr + activation/deployment pay; meals and lodging provided during deployment if you travel further than 50 miles from your registered home address About the Role Essential HealthCare Solutions, LLC is building a roster of Florida-licensed Practical Nurses to support on-site medical care at employee shelters during hurricane and severe-weather events in Southwest Florida.
Working under the direction of a Registered Nurse, our LPNs deliver hands-on basic nursing care to the crews and emergency personnel working to keep the power on — helping keep shelter occupants safe, healthy, and fit for duty. This is on-call, activation-based work ideal for nurses who want meaningful disaster-response experience and flexible, well-compensated deployments. Assignments typically run 24 hours to 14 consecutive days. What You'll Do Provide basic nursing care to shelter occupants — including employees, line crews, contractors, and emergency staff — under the direction of a Registered Nurse Administer treatments and medications within the LPN scope of practice as directed Deliver basic care — first aid, vital-sign monitoring, and management of minor illnesses and injuries Collect clinical data and assist the RN with screenings, monitoring, and referrals to urgent care, hospital, or EMS Respond to on-site medical incidents and provide nursing care within scope, supporting the RN until EMS assumes care Monitor for heat illness, dehydration, fatigue, infectious-disease concerns, and signs of stress Implement infection-prevention practices and recommend isolation or mitigation measures when appropriate Assist with setup of the shelter medical station and maintain medical-supply inventory Maintain accurate documentation, incident notes, and supply/usage records Coordinate with the RN, EMS, hospitals, emergency management, and on-site safety personnel Escalate serious incidents (hospitalization, EMS transport, suspected outbreaks, significant injuries) promptly to the RN and management What You'll Bring Active, unencumbered Florida LPN license — required Current BLS certification — required Ability to pass a background screening Availability to deploy on short notice and work extended 12-hour shifts in shelter/field conditions Comfort working as part of an RN-led team in a fast-paced, resource-limited environment
Preferred:
emergency, long-term care, shelter, or disaster-response experience; IV/medication administration per FL scope;

training Schedule & Conditions This is activation-based work. Deployments are triggered by storm events (up to 72 hours before landfall, through impact, and into recovery). You will work 12-hour shifts — including nights, weekends, and holidays — for up to 14 consecutive days per deployment, in shelter and temporary-facility settings. Meals and lodging are provided during deployment, and PPE is supplied.
