Job Description

The school nurse identifies and treats health disorders among students and provides education in the maintenance of good health and disease prevention. The school nurse must evaluate the physical conditions of students and refer students to appropriate resources as needed.
Job responsibilities:
Develop health plans for student care based on assessment, interventions, and identification of outcomes, and the evaluation of care Responsible for the school clinic in regards to medication administration, health care procedures, and first-aid measures Provide health-related education to students and staff in both individual and group settings Monitor immunizations, managing communicable diseases, and assessing the school environment as to prevent injury and ensure safety Oversee infection control measures Actively participate in school safety plans that address school violence, bullying, and emergencies that may occur at school Oversee vision, hearing, body mass index, and additional health screenings Develop policies, procedures and work standards for school health program Serve as a consultant with other school professionals, such as teachers, provide health advice to school educational teams, such as the Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) team, food service personnel, physical education teachers, coaches, and after-care coordinators
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of medical disorders and treatment Considerable knowledge of child growth and development Knowledge of the school organization and the community served Ability to identify abnormal growth and development and symptoms of disease Ability to coordinate and facilitate services between the school and community resources Ability to develop and maintain health records on students Ability to develop positive working relationships Working knowledge of public health problems and procedures for treatment in coordination with other health and social service agencies
Training and Experience:
Must have current, valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) license from the Florida Board of Nursing Must have current healthcare provider CPR course completion upon employment Experience in pediatrics and/or public health nursing preferred Lutz Preparatory School is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
