Licensed Practical Nurse-PAT Orange Avenue Surgery Center Orlando, FL Job Details Full-time 23 hours ago Qualifications Employee relationship building LPN Full Job Description Position Summary The role of a Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) LPN involves a comprehensive set of responsibilities to ensure patient readiness for surgery. This includes obtaining medical histories, educating patients on pre-surgery procedures, documenting screening calls, and correlating clinical data with medical and nursing care. Effective communication skills are essential for interacting with patients, families, and healthcare team members. The Pre-Admission Testing LPN also participates in training new team members, maintains patient privacy, and provides pre- and post-operative support. Essential Functions Obtaining the patient's medical and surgical history, including medication, allergies, and reactions. Able to interpret and follow the PAT guidelines as set by the ASC. Educate, review, and provide the instructions in preparation of surgery. Appropriately documents the details of the screening call. Ability to correlate clinical data with patient's medical and nursing care. Effective communication skills with patients, families, teammates, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team. Participates in the orientation and training of new LPN nursing staff. Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and competence in skills identified for the position. Promotes physical comfort, emotional support, and safety for patients and their families. Respects the patient's right to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality. Performs pre-operative and post-operative phone calls to patients, obtains pre-anesthesia assessments, reviews pre-op instructions, and follows up after surgery. Operates, cleans, and cares for equipment according to procedure. Other Related Functions Ability to set priorities to facilitate the efficient flow of patients to the OR and PACU. Verifies surgical/procedure site with the patient. Initiates IV access with IV certification. Reviews physician's pre-operative and post-operative orders and instructions. Practices and monitors aseptic techniques. Assists with Medical record management as needed. Positions the patient with attention to body alignment, airway maintenance, and circulation. Maintains, stocks, and replenishes supplies for both pre-operative and PACU departments. Notifies appropriate staff to order supplies as needed. Assists physicians and anesthesia personnel as needed. Maintains a neat and organized environment that promotes safety. Maintains attendance according to facility guidelines and policies. Provides notification for unscheduled absences or tardiness per departmental procedures and requests time off according to the established procedure. Attends unit-based staff meetings and reviews minutes for any meetings missed. Maintains certification requirements and submits required certifications to facility management. Strives to be professional, courteous, helpful, and cooperative, interacting with all patients, families, visitors, and employees in a mature, positive manner. Follows Infection Prevention and Control guidelines. Notify Clinical Manager of any suspicion of a possible cross contamination. Complies with OSHA and Joint Commission standards, HIPAA regulations, and all facility policies and procedures. Performs all other duties as assigned by the manager. Education/Training Licensed Practical Nurse for Three (3) plus years required. Pre-Admission Testing of two (2) plus years is desirable. Pre & Post Operative of two (2) plus years is desirable. Licensure/Certification Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) License in Florida Basic Life Support (BLS) IV certification desirable Experience Two (2) plus years of experience Multi-Specialty Ambulatory Surgery Center or Outpatient facility, preferred. Building strong relationships with Physicians. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
