Overview:
Delivery of quality medical and psychiatric nursing care. Applies nursing principles and techniques in the care and treatment of patients. Takes vital signs and gives medication as prescribed by a variety of methods. Assists ARNPs. Provides nursing services, assessments and maintenance activities. Manages assigned outpatient injection clinics. Provides crisis intervention. Prepares and maintains patient records.
ESSENTIAL/CORE JOB-SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Organizes and manages Outpatient medication injection clinics. Administers injections and documents administration in accordance with Agency procedures. Verifies proper identification of patient using two identifiers for each medication administration. Assists the psychiatric ARNP as needed. Provides assessment of clients waiting to see ARNP through vital signs and assessment of medication side effects associated with prescribed psychotropic medications. Documents assessment in accordance with Agency procedures. Provide patient medication education and information. Stocks and reconciles Injection Room supplies (i.e., syringes, sharps containers, etc.). Ensures medication storage and disposal meet all required standards and policy. (Including labeling all medication vials opened with expiration dates.) Complies with Apalachee and CDC Handwashing, and Infection surveillance, control, and prevention policies and procedures or standards. Identifies risk factors for infection in patient populations and takes appropriate steps to prevent transmission of infections in accordance with established protocols/procedures. Reports identification of all transmission-based client infections, blood/body fluid exposures, sharps injuries, and suspicion of disease outbreaks in accordance with Adverse Incident reporting requirements. Attends nursing in-services as requested/required.
Education/Experience:
Licensure as a practical nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464.
Licensure or Certification:
Current licensure as a registered professional nurse. Must maintain current CPR and CPI certifications. Must possess a valid Florida drivers license and maintain authorization as an approved Center vehicle driver.
