Duties & Responsibilities:
Initiate, monitor, and terminate hemodialysis treatments as assigned by direct supervisor. Observe and evaluate patients undergoing hemodialysis, recording the patient's response to the dialysis procedure and the medications given during the treatment. Recognize any significant change in the patient's condition, prior to, during, and after the dialysis treatment and report such changes to the charge nurse or clinical manager. Demonstrate competency in cannulation of the AVF and AVG. Be skillful in the determination of blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate and in the proper method of recording these vital signs. Be knowledgeable of all procedures requiring aseptic technique and universal precautions and be capable of implementing these infection control techniques properly. Assume responsibility for direct patient care. Participate in continuing education programs/classes offered by the clinic. At least 12 contact hours are required annually. Participate in the CQI process through data collection, analysis, and implementation of action plans. Participate and assist in the development of patient care plans for each primary care patient assigned to you. Have an understanding of the dialysis options, processes, and medications commonly involved in patient care, possible clinical complications, the importance of infection control and water treatment. Work effectively with all staff members, physicians, and patients. Assist in the teaching and training of new staff members as directed by the charge nurse or clinical manager. Incorporate physician's orders into patient care practice. Perform in any area, as directed, by immediate supervisor.
Experience:
One year experience in hemodialysis and caring for the patient with ESRD is required.

The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Day-to-day work includes desk and personal computer work and interaction with patients, facility, staff, and physicians. The position provides direct patient care that regularly involves heavy lifting and moving of patients and assisting with ambulation. Equipment aids and/or coworkers may help. This position requires frequent, prolonged periods of standing and the employee must be able to bend over. The employee may occasionally be required to move, with assistance, machines and equipment weighing up to 200lbs., and may lift chemical water solutions of up to 30lbs., up as high as 5 feet.
