UNIT CLERK
Fahrney Keedy in Boonsboro Maryland (near Hagerstown) Full Time / Day Shift $18.50 - $23.50 •must have good driving record•CNA or Med Tech license a plus !!
SUMMARY:
The primary purpose of a Unit Clerk - ALU is to assist the Director of Assisted Living and/or Delegating RN in their day-to-day recording and charting of medical or administrative information in accordance with federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and the policies, procedures and practices of Fahrney-Keedy that govern medical records, and may be required to ensure that our medical records are maintained in an informative and descriptive manner.
DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY
As a Unit Clerk - ALU, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibilities, and accountability necessary for canying out your assigned duties.
EMPLOYMENT AT WILL
Employment with Fahrney-Keedy is "at will". Either the associate or Fahrney-Keedy may terminate the employment relationship for any reason at any time without notice, regardless of the length of employment or the granting of benefits of any kind, including but not limited to benefits which provide for vesting based on length of service. Fahrney-Keedy associates recognize that Fahrney-Keedy has and will have information regarding financial, personal and medical affairs and other vital information (collectively, "information") which are valuable, special and unique assets of Fahrney-Keedy. Associates agree that they will not at any time or in any manner solicit, collect or divulge any Information to any third party without the prior written consent of Fahrney-Keedy. This information is Company property which may not be disclosed outside the facility unless properly released for publication. Associates will protect the Information and treat it as strictly confidential. Associates should not discuss Fahrney-Keedy affairs with others
JOB FUNCTION

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Records appropriate resident identification data on designated medical records, and other documentation as reauired. Transcribes physicians' orders to care plans, medication cards, treatment plans, etc. Reviews medication cards for completeness of information, accuracy in the transcription of the physician's order, legibility, etc. Records vital signs as directed. Assists in arranging for and making resident appointments for diagnostic and therapeutic services. Notifies the resident's next-of-kin when there is a change in the resident's condition, accident or incident. Prepares the schedule for all Assisted living personnel. The schedule is to be prepared with employee assigned to the various floors. Responsible for replacing or reananging of staff during hours worked. Assists with on call rotation for staffing issues only. Staff Scheduler, including "On Call" rotation for staffing issues, as well as schedular duties as assigned. Performs general administrative requirements, such as completing necessary forms, charts, repo11s, etc. and submit these as may be required. Maintains a friendly, productive, working relationship with other members of the department, and facility. Reports any complaints or grievances made by residents to the Director of Assisted Living, the Delegating RN, or the Director of Nursing. Participate and cooperate with any facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as requested by the Director of Assisted Living or Delegating RN. Agrees not to disclose assigned user ID codes and passwords for accessing resident/facility information and promptly report suspected or known violations of such disclosure to the Director of Assisted Living or Delegating RN. Agrees not to disclose resident's protected health information and promptly report suspected or known violations of such disclosure to the Director of Assisted Living or Delegating RN. Records medical and administrative information in accordance with our established electronic charting and documentation policies and procedures. Maintains the daily census report and submits to the Business Office. Maintains an up-to-date roster of residents for ALU. Answers telephone, page calls, delivers messages to residents, etc. Maintains current listing of emergency phone numbers for ALU. l All transport duties including scheduling appts, providing transport, maintaining calendar of appointments and follow ups, making facility packets to send, etc. Forwards new diet orders and/or diet changes to the Director of Food Services Delivers mail, flowers, etc. to residents. Completes accident or incident repo1ts. Completes necessary medical and administrative records upon the resident's admission, transfer and/or discharge. Directs visitors to resident rooms, office areas, etc. Repo1ts any known or suspected unauthorized attempt to access the facility's infom1ation system. Ensures that departmental computer workstations left unattended are properly logged off or the password protected automatic screensaver activates within established policy guidelines. Attends annual in-service training programs as scheduled. Keeps call buttons within easy reach of each resident. Immediately notifies the Delegating RN or Director of Assisted Living of any resident leaving/missing from the facility. Follows established safety precautions in the performance of all duties. Reports all hazardous conditions and equipment to the Director of Assisted Living or Delegating RN. Reports all safety violations. Reports any communicable or infectious disease to the Director of Assisted Living, Delegating RN or to the Director of Infection Control. Follows established isolation precautions and procedures. Wears and/or use safety equipment and supplies. Safely uses only the equipment you have been trained to use. Reports defective equipment to the Delegating RN or Director of Assisted Living. Practices appropriate handwashing and use of hand sanitizer at all times.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate may encounter while performing the essential duties of this position. Works throughout the facility. Subject to frequent interruptions. Subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, visitors, etc. May work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary and may work in other positions when necessary. Subject to call-back during emergency conditions (i.e., severe weather, evacuation, post disaster, etc.) Subject to handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals. Subject to exposure to infectious waste diseases, conditions, etc., including TB, HIV, Hep. B, etc. Attends and participates in educational programs. Subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc. throughout the workday, as well as reactions from dust, disinfectants, and/or other air contaminants.
RESIDENT RIGHTS
Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information including protected health information. Report known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of such information. Ensure that you treat all residents fairly with kindness, dignity, and respect. Ensure that all nursing care is provided in privacy. Knock and wait for permission to enter all residents' rooms. Report all grievances and complaints made by the residents to the Director of Assisted Living or the Delegating RN. Report all allegations of resident abuse and/or misappropriation of resident property to the Fahrney-Keedy Abuse Coordinator. Honor the resident's refusal of treatment request. Report such requests to your supervisor.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served. Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of team work and team concept. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with staff, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public. Must possess the ability and willingness to work harmoniously with other staff. Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents. Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices. Must be able to relate information concerning a resident's condition. Must not pose a direct threat to the health and safety of other individuals in the workplace.
EDUCATION
High School Diploma or GED is required.
PRIOR/RELATED EXPERIENCE
On-the-job training provided; however, a basic knowledge of medical terminology and nursing practices is helpful.
PHYSICAL & SENSORY REQUIREMENTS
(With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices): Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday. Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position. Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met. Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, staff, and support agencies. Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical examination. Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile people within the facility. Must not have a weight-lifting restriction. Must be able to push, pull, move and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry a minimum distance of 50 feet. May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
