Overview:
Nextaff is seeking a skilled and compassionate Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for a 13-week contract assignment. In this role, the LPN will provide high-quality patient care in a clinical setting while supporting the healthcare team and ensuring patient safety and comfort. Duties Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and physiological evaluations to inform care plans. Administer medications and injections accurately following prescribed protocols while maintaining detailed medical documentation. Assist with complex procedures such as IV infusion, catheterization, tube feeding, and wound suturing using aseptic techniques. Manage airway support devices like ventilators and perform emergency interventions including basic life support (BLS) when necessary. Coordinate patient care activities such as discharge planning, case management, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to optimize outcomes. Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic or Cerner for accurate documentation of patient information and medical records. Conduct specimen collection and processing, perform phlebotomy and venipuncture procedures, and ensure infection control standards are upheld. Requirements Valid licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the relevant state or jurisdiction. Proven experience working in diverse healthcare environments such as hospitals (including ICU or trauma centers), nursing homes, assisted living facilities, or home care settings. Demonstrated proficiency with EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth for efficient medical documentation. Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), and CPT coding for billing purposes. Experience with specialized care areas including critical care (ICU), emergency medicine, hospice care, dementia/memory care, infectious disease management, and acute pain management. Ability to perform complex patient assessments and deliver compassionate care to individuals with developmental disabilities or behavioral health needs. Excellent communication skills to educate patients on health coaching topics and collaborate effectively with healthcare teams. Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift patients safely using Hoyer lifts if needed, and perform sterile procedures requiring aseptic technique.
