Kidstop is a high-quality, choice-based child care program serving Kindergarten through 5th grade students across multiple elementary schools. With over 1,200 students enrolled, our program supports youth through engaging, supportive experiences that align with the district's mission: to inspire and prepare scholars with the confidence, courage, and competence to achieve their dreams, contribute to community, and engage in lifelong learning. Work Hours:
Typical shifts are up to 8 hours per day•8:00am-4:30pm with a 30min unpaid lunch break
Locations:
Basswood Elementary, Oak View Elementary, Weaver Lake Elementary and Woodland Elementary
Staff Time Off:
Up to 5 unpaid days may only be taken during the summer. Staff hours and locations may be adjusted based on youth attendance, staffing needs, or field trips. All staff are expected to work through August 21, 2026. General Purpose of the job: Our summer program supports our mission to inspire and prepare each and every scholar with the confidence, courage and competence to achieve their dreams; contribute to community; and engage in a lifetime of learning. Provide on-site support for youth including youth with chronic and temporary health conditions. Provide care for sick or injured youth during the summer program. Assess the health status of youth, and school personnel; advise youth, parents/families and staff regarding health issues and conduct preventive and health education services. We are committed to provide an enriching, caring, safe and equitable environment with fun and exciting choices for youth to engage in daily.
Responsibilities:
Support Summer Kidstop K-5 programs and youth. Assess health status and perform first aid, emergency care and other illness interventions according to school district guidelines Administer medications and/or specialized health care treatments to youth as directed by physicians and authorized by parents/guardians Assess the health and developmental status of the youth through district health screening programs. Facilitate referrals to health care agencies or facilities when requested Promote and maintain health and well-being of youth, families and school personnel by health teaching and health counseling. Develop Individual Health/Emergency plans for youth with special needs. Communicate with families, staff, youth regarding the development and implementation of these plans. Periodically evaluate plans and revise as necessary. Prevent and control communicable disease through health status and implementation of the state immunization laws Collaborate, document and share information as needed with stakeholders including other nurses, families, site staff and personnel. When required, participate in staffing regarding youth with special needs and assume responsibility for contributions to the health component of the IEP (Individual Education Plan) Maintain health records on all youth registered in summer programs. Excuse or readmit youth for health reasons in accordance with the building procedure and county health department exclusion guidelines. Complete accident report forms for youth needing doctor's attention and/or resulting in a loss of program time. Train and supervise volunteers/staff on any areas as needed. Attend site events and/or field trips to support and assist youth. Serve as a resource to staff for health education purposes. Work collaboratively with other community education or district summer programs. Dedicate to creating and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment to all families, scholars, and staff regardless of abilities, ethnicities, genders and religious beliefs. Perform additional site duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Must be a registered nurse currently licensed in the State of Minnesota Currently employed as an RN Commitment to the Mission of District 279 Skills that include organization, confidence, patience, understanding, teamwork and communication. Delegating work to LPNs and supporting LPNs working in the summer program.
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
Basic first aid and health screening Ability to communicate and foster positive working relationships with youth, families and staff Ability to teach health information to youth and staff Public health background preferred Current CPR Computer skills preferred
