Job Description

Summary As a Medical Assistant/LPN, you will be integral in delivering high-quality patient care and ensuring efficient medical office operations. Reporting to the healthcare team, you will utilize your core skills in patient assessment, basic life support, and EHR systems to support patient interactions and triage effectively. Job Functions Prepares exam rooms and equipment to facilitate treatment and examination of patients by setting up instruments/equipment and stocking supplies. Brings patients back to the exam room, obtains patient vitals, reviews with patient past medical records, gathers information relevant to patient chief complaint and documents all medication, tests/procedures in EMR. Accurately documents patient information in the Electronic Medical Record. Assists providers to facilitate patient treatment by obtaining lab work as directed by provider. Prepares patients for procedures and assist during procedures. Administers treatments and medications at the direction of the providers. Checks for proper medication orders; documents medications in EMR; obtains required consent from patient/guardian to administer immunizations; and educates patients of medication administered. Orders diagnostic tests at the diagnostic facility and obtains insurance prior-authorizations as needed. Conducts lab testing and prepares specimens sent to outside lab. Tracks tests results and follow-up with the patients at the direction of the provider and nursing staff. Triage patients calls to determine patient needs and reporting patient condition to provider and advising patient based on provider's instructions. Completes request for medication refills at the direction of the provider or following provider approved protocols. At the direction of the provider, provides patient and family education materials. Reviews drug samples and vaccinations to insure they have not exceeded the expiration date, labels sample drugs. Cleans and sterilizes equipment per protocol. Checks out patients and schedules patients for follow up appointment if applicable. Works as float in office, including backup duties for medical scheduler Adheres to office policies and procedures, rules and regulations, and other State and Federal regulatory requirements. Completes other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Effectively communicate with patients, coworkers and vendors. Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner. Manages difficult or emotional patient situations. Adapts to changes in the work place and competing priorities. Active team player. Proficient in keyboarding and windows based software. Competent in using office machines such as copiers, printers, faxes and calculators. Previous experience with Electronic Medical Record preferred. Minimum Qualifications Graduate of an accredited medical assistants or nursing program required One year of clinical experience, preferably in a physician office setting. Previous experience with Electronic Medical Record preferred. Nebraska Medication Aide License or LPN license required Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Physical Demands/Work Environment Intermittent and/or frequent physical activity including walking, sitting, standing, reaching, bending and lifting up to 25 pounds. Exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues or infectious materials or illness in the working environment.
