Job Description

Category Schools - LPN Nurse Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting student health in a dynamic school environment located near Hackensack, NJ. This position centers on providing attentive, one-on-one care for a 13-year-old student managing Type 1 diabetes, utilizing advanced devices such as the Dexcom continuous glucose monitor (CGM) and the Omnipod insulin pump. Your expertise will be crucial for pattern recognition, system checks, timing insulin doses, and ensuring seamless diabetes care throughout the school day.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
Current LPN or LVN license in New Jersey and good standing Prior experience in school-based settings or pediatric diabetes management preferred Proficiency in using and troubleshooting continuous glucose monitors and insulin pump technology, especially Dexcom and Omnipod systems Strong understanding of diabetes care, including safety protocols and manual backups (finger-stick blood glucose monitoring when necessary) Excellent communication and documentation skills Ability to respond proactively to symptoms and make informed decisions based on real-time device and manual readings
Key Responsibilities:
Provide dedicated 1:1 nursing care for a student during regular school hours (8:10am - 3:00pm, no bus riding required) Oversee blood glucose monitoring and management using both technological integration (Dexcom CGM linked to smartphone) and vigilant manual checks as needed Administer and monitor insulin deliveries, making adjustments in consultation with protocols and healthcare providers Collaborate with school staff and maintain clear communication with the student's parents Promote a safe, supportive environment and respond promptly to any health concerns
