Category Schools - LPN Nurse Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting a thirteen-year-old student with Type 1 diabetes in a school-based setting near Jersey City, NJ. This position focuses on safe, diligent management of diabetes care throughout the school day, utilizing advanced technology and providing critical support for seamless student participation in school activities.
Key Qualifications:
Active LPN/LVN license in New Jersey Experience in school nursing or pediatric care preferred Strong understanding of diabetes management, especially the use of Dexcom CGM and Omnipod insulin pump Confident with pattern recognition, problem-solving, and manual system checks Comfortable conducting blood glucose finger-stick testing when required Competence using and interpreting smartphone-based readings Excellent communication skills to collaborate closely with families and school staff Commitment to attentive, one-on-one care Able to work onsite (no remote options)
Primary Responsibilities:
Oversee and optimize Type 1 diabetes care for the assigned student daily from 8:10am to 3:00pm Monitor Dexcom readings, provide timely responses, and recognize patterns and changes Use manual finger-stick glucose meter as needed, especially when symptoms and readings differ Maintain safety checks, backup plans, and quality documentation Foster a positive, reassuring relationship with the student, parents, and school team Participate in interdisciplinary collaboration as necessary Enjoy a steady, consistent schedule following the school calendar, with a fulfilling opportunity to make a direct, positive impact in a student's life. The contract runs from September 1, 2026, through June 23, 2027, for 35 hours per week.
