Carson City Float Pool Full Time Night Shift Summary Under the direction of the department leadership provides nursing care for assigned patients. Performs care, treatments, and procedures within scope of practice and established guidelines and provides a safe and therapeutic environment. Qualifications Required Current and unencumbered licensure or Interim Permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) through the Nevada State Board of Nursing American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare provider Must successfully complete National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification within 90 days of hire or position entry Must successfully complete Non-Violent Crisis intervention within six (6) months of hire or position entry IV Competency completion within six (6) months of hire ECG Rhythm Interpretation Course within 6 months of employment. Preferred One (1) years of LPN experience in an acute care hospital. Be enrolled in LPN to RN program within 24 months of hire Cross training for Avasure Tech (AT) and Monitor Tech (MT) in the Central Monitoring Unit (CMU) to be completed upon hire Primary departments to float to: Medical/Oncology Surgical/Orthopedics Sierra Postop Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) Behavioral Health Inpatient Central Monitoring Unit (CMU) Additional departments expected to float to: Telemetry Emergency Dept. (to care for pts holding for admit or to PRN tasks) ICU (to care for Tele or Floor Care status pts) With additional training Pediatrics (for adult care or to care for Pediatrics with additional training) Labor & Delivery (with additional training) Essential Functions Has knowledge of and adheres to Carson Tahoe Health's policies, procedures, and unit standards of care. Attends 75% of scheduled staff meetings/unit conferences. Attends/completes 100% of all required Unit and Hospital education and Employee Health annual requirements by the established deadlines. Maintains required license and certification requirements on provided platform. Maintains competencies to reflect current skill level. Adheres to performing/receiving bedside handover as per organizational standards. Implements patient care instructions per physician orders. Consults with and keeps Charge Registered Nurse informed of activities, symptoms, reactions, and changes in the patient's condition with regard to assigned patients. Administers medication within scope of practice and established policies. Maintain the MAR (Medication Administration Record). Observes and documents patient reactions to medications to determine efficacy/side effects. Identifies patient teaching needs and provides elementary instructions for the patient and his or her family. Participates in data collection related to patient status and needs. Documents all aspects of patient care. Provides appropriate pain management techniques and instructs the patient and family regarding pain management. Performs patient hygiene duties as needed. Completes and documents a patient assessment each shift Performs nursing procedures and patient care per policy and procedure. Assists with admitting, discharging and transferring of patients; assessments of newly admitted patients to be completed by a Registered Nurse. LPNs receiving a patient from a lower or same level of care and who have already had an assessment completed and documented by a Registered Nurse during the previous 24 hours, do not need an additional co-signed assessment by a Registered Nurse. Patients transferring to a higher level of care will require an assessment by a Registered Nurse. Identifies abnormal diagnostic data and shows a fundamental understanding of its implications by reporting information to the buddy nurse and/or provider Continues plan of care established by registered nurse Responds appropriately in urgent and/or emergency situations. Evaluates and notes the individual patient's response to nursing care defined in the nursing care plan and medical records. Appropriately delegates and supervises care scheduled by non-professional personnel, providing instruction as needed Assists with maintenance of unit safety. Assists in the teaching or preceptor role for student nurses and other allied health professionals Demonstrates proficiency as defined in the position/group/department checklists and unit specific competency standards. Performs other related duties as assigned.
