Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Correctional Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide comprehensive nursing care within a correctional facility setting. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in patient assessment, medication administration, and emergency response, with experience working with diverse populations, including individuals with developmental disabilities, dementia, and acute medical needs. CORRECTIONAL LPN
Shift:
8- hours Afternoons Shift details: 2.00 P to 10.00 PM 5
  • 8 hours/week.
(40 hrs.) 26-week contract Perform thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and health history documentation using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner. Administer medications and injections accurately following prescribed protocols, including IV infusions and specialized treatments like botulinum toxin or catheterization procedures. Monitor patients for signs of acute pain, infectious diseases, or other medical conditions requiring immediate attention or triage. Assist with diagnostic evaluations and coordinate care plans involving medical imaging, laboratory specimen collection, and processing. Maintain detailed medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations and facility policies; document all patient interactions thoroughly. Support emergency response efforts by managing airway emergencies, ventilator support, or Level I trauma center protocols as needed. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop discharge planning strategies and facilitate continuity of care for inmates with complex health needs. Ensure infection control practices are strictly followed to prevent the spread of communicable diseases within the facility environment. Qualifications Valid LPN licensure with current state certification; additional certifications such as Basic Life Support (BLS) are required. Prior experience working in correctional facilities is highly preferred; experience in acute care settings such as hospital medicine or ICU is advantageous. Demonstrated proficiency in using EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth for documentation and patient management. Knowledge of diverse healthcare areas including geriatrics, dementia care, hospice care, and behavioral health is desirable. Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and ICD coding (ICD-9/10). Ability to perform venipuncture, phlebotomy, sterile techniques, and aseptic procedures confidently. Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients with developmental disabilities or mental health conditions while maintaining professionalism and respect.
