Director of Nursing Job Description The Director of Nursing is responsible for the overall coordination and supervision of nursing services in the facility. The DON assures that the facility is in compliance with state regulations for an ICF/IID and that nurses are working within the scope of their nursing licenses. The DON works closely with the Administrator, Medical Director, Pharmacy as well as other providers to assure that the medical needs of the residents are met in a timely manner. Supervisor experience preferred. Director of Nursing Specific Job Duties include but are not limited to: Develop and maintain a professional relationship with all customers that facilitates positive morale, mutual respect, and a culture of teamwork and cooperation. Attend and participate in meetings as requested to stay abreast of company issues, policy and procedure changes, personnel updates and general information. Assures the delivery of service provision is therapeutic, provides optimal growth for individuals and preserves the individuals' dignity and self-worth. Provides coaching and development of all employees on an on-going basis. Recommends, designs, implements and maintains nursing, medical, and infection control policies and procedures needed by Empowering People and/or required by ICF, Waiver rules, DODD, or ODH. Hires, trains, assess work performance, and where necessary carries out disciplinary actions for nurses supervised. Assures proper dispensing, documentation, and review of medications/treatments. Observes, evaluates, and records effectiveness of treatments and procedures as ordered by physician. Observes, evaluates and records effects and side effects of medications. Transcribes orders written by physician. Assures medical charts are maintained in order. Assists with emergencies as they occur in the work area. Arranges for escort of severely ill or injured clients to Emergency Care Facility. Trains nurses in special procedures which require the expertise of a licensed nurse such as catheterizations, catheter irrigations, removal of fecal impactions, eye and ear irrigations, sterile dressings, etc. Is on-call for medical/nursing consultation. Evaluates general health care status of clients through nursing assessments. Ensures the completion of quarterly/Annual Nursing Summaries.
