Job Description

Job Summary Join our dedicated correctional healthcare team as a Nurse specializing in correctional medicine, where you will play a vital role in providing comprehensive medical care within a correctional facility setting. This position offers an exciting opportunity to deliver high-quality patient care to a diverse population, including individuals with complex medical needs such as Alzheimer's disease, dementia, infectious diseases, and acute injuries. You will utilize your extensive nursing skills to assess, diagnose, and treat inmates while ensuring compliance with healthcare standards and safety protocols. Your energetic approach will help foster a safe and supportive environment for both staff and patients. Responsibilities Conduct thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and medical history documentation using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Saphire. Administer medications, injections, IV infusions, and perform catheterizations following sterile technique and safety guidelines. Manage acute pain cases, triage urgent health concerns, and coordinate care plans for individuals with chronic conditions like dementia or developmental disabilities. Provide emergency response care including airway management, ventilator support, and basic life support (BLS) during critical incidents. Document all patient interactions accurately in medical records while adhering to HIPAA regulations and ICD coding standards (ICD-9/ICD-10). Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on discharge planning, case management, and post-acute care strategies to ensure continuity of care. Support infection control protocols and perform specimen collection/processing for laboratory testing as needed. Provider support and coordination Maintaining examination and treatment areas Verification of medications and medical information Maintain medication records Answer telephone and processing calls Maintain filing system and confidentiality of information at all times Provide full administrative and clerical support to the medical department at the facility to include typing of various reports, letters and memorandums. Data Entry Scanning documents into the computer Assisting with the credentialing process of new hires Maintain staff log Schedule transports Assist with billing Experience Valid licensure as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or Registered Nurse (RN). Proven experience working in correctional facilities or similar high-acuity environments such as hospitals or trauma centers. Critical care experience including ICU or emergency medicine is highly desirable. Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks is preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, pharmacology related to pain management and medication administration. Experience in managing infectious diseases, hospice care, geriatrics, or specialty areas such as cardiology or ophthalmology is advantageous. Ability to work with diverse populations including children, elderly patients with memory care needs, and individuals with disabilities or developmental challenges.
