Job Description
Key Duties:
Supervises and directs patient care in an endoscopy room. Performs nursing care for the patient in the immediate pre and post-anesthesia period, assessing and documenting patient's status upon arrival in the recovery room. Provides nursing care to meet patient needs related to procedure and type of anesthesia administered, monitoring patient and informing physician or anesthetist of observed complications. Intake/pre-call medical history. Full Duties Pre-Admission:
Assists with inventory of supplies, drugs, and equipment to maintain availability and stock levels in the admission area Maintains order and cleanliness of Admitting area Actively participates as a team member in support of the total pre-anesthesia care process Per Center policy, uses two patient identifiers, identifies and validates the patient and procedure to be performed. Works collaboratively with the healthcare team to prepare the pre-procedure area Provides comfort and reassurance to patient Maintains patient's privacy and dignity Utilizes the nursing process to perform safe and individualized nursing care throughout the pre-procedure process Administers medications(s) per order of physician Accurately comprehends and interprets physician orders and direction Evaluates patient condition and maintains accurate documentation during pre-anesthesia period Using the nursing assessment, monitors, and reports any observed abnormalities to the other members of the healthcare team Documents patient care records and other forms accurately, legibly and in a timely manner, following policies and procedures Assesses each patient for fall precautions and addresses per Center policy Assists or supervises patients attire change (as necessary)
Endoscopy Procedure:
Participates as a team member in support of the total intra-procedure process Organizes time, equipment, supplies, and personnel to provide effective and efficient case management Supervises and directs patient care in an endoscopy room Organizes nursing activities efficiently and effectively Delegates activities appropriate to the abilities of available staff members Considers cost containment by using supplies economically and in effective turnover time Assists with supply, drug, and equipment inventories to maintain stock level and availability Addresses patient needs during admission to the endoscopy room, with attention to requirements specific to the outpatient setting Transports patients to the endoscopy room observing policies, procedures, and safety requirements, and according to patient needs Identifies the patient and correct procedure according to policy and procedure and communicates with all members of the surgical team Reviews patient's medical record and needs to plan care with other healthcare team members Provides comfort and reassurance to patient Maintains patient's privacy and dignity Explains procedures and care to the patient Prepares room according to requirements of patient and procedure to be performed Assembles and provides properly functioning equipment, supplies, and instruments before start of procedure Assists with the proper and safe positioning of the patient Administers medication per order of physician and based on condition of patient Monitors patient condition and maintains accurate documentation pre-procedure, during procedure, and post-procedure Provides continuity of patient care by communicating with other intra-procedure care personnel and documenting records accordingly Responds in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and physician Accurately comprehends and interprets verbal orders and direction Documents patient-care records and other forms accurately, following policies and procedures Accurately advises others responsible for care of the patient about the patient's status
PACU:
Effectively organizes time, equipment, supplies, and personnel for management of the recovery room Organizes nursing activities efficiently, considering staff abilities when delegating activities Uses equipment effectively by anticipating patient needs and providing appropriate care Confirms that proper techniques and procedures are used according to accepted standards of practice Assists in managing inventory of supplies, drugs, and equipment to maintain availability and stock levels in the postoperative area Maintains order and cleanliness of post-procedure area Performs safe and individualized nursing care for the patient in the immediate post-procedure/post-anesthesia period Assesses and documents the patient's physical and emotional status upon arrival in the recovery room Documents post-anesthesia care fromanesthesia/sedation according to approved policies and procedures Provides nursing care to meet patient needs related to procedure and type of anesthesia administered Monitors patients and informs physician or anesthetist of observed complications Performs thorough post-procedure patient assessment prior to discharge of the patient Assists in assessing the physical and emotional status of the patient in preparation for discharge Reviews post-procedure instructions and prescriptions from the physician with patient and significant other and documents in the patient's medical record Informs patient and family about appropriate care and procedure to follow upon returning home Determines that patient and significant other understand conditions that require immediate care/method to obtain immediate care
Reprocessing:
Demonstrates ability to clean and organize equipment Demonstrates ability to package supplies for sterilization Demonstrates correct procedure regarding washing and sterilizing equipment Demonstrates correct procedure for using AER scope washers and troubleshooting AER scope washer problems Selects proper mode of disinfection/sterilization for instruments and equipment Demonstrates knowledge of chemical disinfection and use of AER scope washers Chooses appropriate items for sterilization/disinfection Chooses appropriate agent for disinfection Handles tissue specimens correctly and accurately Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of scope functions and equipment utilized during procedure Demonstrates appropriate decontamination of equipment after use Implements housecleaning task necessary for sanitation Required High school graduate or GED certification Graduate of accredited school of nursing RN or LPN with active license in Pennsylvania ACLS certification and CPR certification (will be provided by company if needed, upon hire). IV conscious sedation training (Not required, but appreciated). Evidence of leadership qualities Strong ethical and moral character references Language skills adequate for high-level written, interpersonal, and telephone communication in American English Preferred Endoscopy experience ASC experience Computer literacy
