Job Description

Position & Program Overview:
Licensed practical nurse will function under Public Health Nursing protocol and/or direct MD/APN order to provide patient services at the local health department.
Education Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:
Currently licensed as a practical nurse with the State of Tennessee or holds a privilege to practice in the State of Tennessee under the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).A valid motor vehicle operator license may be required.
Key Responsibilities:
Primary Responsibilities:
Dispensing in house medications from drug room.

Monthly drug room inventory and supply ordering.

Provide program specific services such as:
Primary Care:
Performing patient intake procedures such as medical history, labs, vital signs, obtaining patient's chief complaint/presenting illness.

Assuring completion of health history questionnaire.

Documenting drug allergies or other medical alert information.

Family Planning including pregnancy testing and emergency contraceptive services.

Communicable Disease testing (STD, HIV, Hepatitis C, Syphilis and TB risk assessment).Emergency Response Preparedness including assisting in various PODS (Point of Dispensing Sites) and other services as needed.

Completing immunization assessment and administering appropriate vaccines.

Performing phlebotomy, in-house lab procedures, performing EKG's.
